Type of a scam Online Purchase

I received a pop-up ad with a video showing great skin care results. I ordered the so-called free sample for $5.95. My credit card showed three charges vs one. When I called to inquire, I was told that one was for postage and one for a free e-book that I did not order or receive. I believe I was able to cancel the monthly subscription they signed me up for without my permission. But I was told that the company’s policy is never to refund money, even if the product was never received.
