The scammer called my business and said that they were Eversource and that our power would be shut off in 30 minutes because I missed payments. I assured them that I made all my payments, but they said there was an issue with online payments not being received. They said I had to go to a physical location and make a payment immediately to stop the power from being shut off.

I own a small business. Without realizing it, I hadn’t received an Eversource bill since May and, hence, hadn’t paid Eversource since May. I received a shut off notice saying that if I didn’t pay my bill by September 25th, my account would be shut off on the 26th. I immediately paid my bill via online banking and contacted Eversource. They said my account had been set up on e-bill, (explaining why I didn’t receive a bill) but the email address that was associated with my account was not mine. Not even close. They corrected the email address. At the same time I was clearing this up, I received a call from someone saying that they were from Eversource. They informed me that if I didn’t pay by noon today, that my electricity would be shut off. When I informed them that I had paid via my online banking, they asked for a confirmation number. As the payment hadn’t gone out yet, I didn’t have this number. They said the only way to avoid having my power shut off was to get a MoneyPak card for a minimum of $500; which was the minimum due. It was 11:30 at this point and I rushed to CVS to buy a MoneyPak card for $500. As I was returning to my business I started thinking that this seems like a strange way of doing business. I googled the phone number, and came up with a travel gear business in Minnesota. I called Eversource using the number on my bill, and they assured me it was a scam.
I suspect they commandeered my account by signing up for ebill and just waited for it to go into arrears and they tried to extort money out of me.

Incoming call around 5:10pm to inform hotel Front Desk crew was on way to shut off power unless we made a payment.
Call back the number they gave us: 866-741-5255 “billing department”
Called and spoke with “Mark” who confirmed a crew was on its way to shut off power.
Mark said we could buy ourselves 48 hours if we made a cash payment of $3k and he would give directions on how to do that.
Told us there was nothing they could do. We asked to speak to a supervisor. Got a woman named “Clare” who said she would try to help us and lowered the amount to $1k but said there were no other options. After several minutes of arguing she put us on hold for 30 minutes.
At that point we got through to the real Eversource who confirmed they were not calling us.
We called the number back and Claire answered. I identified us as calling from the Godfrey Hotel and that she put us on hold 30 minutes ago and she had no recollection. She then hung up. We called back and she hung up again.

I was called on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 1 pm by a woman named "Michelle" from 866-741-5255 who said she was from Eversource (our electric and gas supplier) with a message that said our service would be discontinued that day due to non-payment. When I told her I was sure that our account was paid and up to date she asked if we used automatic bill pay from our checking account. When I said yes, she said that the billing information for Eversource had changed, so the payment most likely didn’t go through. She asked me to go to Walgreens or Rite Aid and get a MoneyPak debit card and call her back with the numbers on the back of the debit card. That’s when I went to the Eversource website and found information saying that is not how they pursue collections, ever, and that I would have received notices that my service would be shut off, and never on a Saturday.

Getting daily robocalls from 508 202 1270 claiming to be giving
Eversource discounts. When calling that number recording says unconfirmed number. Also when you press one during robocall to speak to someone..no one answers and goes to busy signal. Daily nuisance. I reported yesterday to donotcallgov. They just called again today.
