Recorded message saying our bill was overdue and needed to be paid immediately to avoid shut off. Gave a number to call. Very official sounding. I knew we did not owe anything so did not call that number but looked up CE’s number on our bill and called. They verified that we did not owe anything and that it was a scam. We have received this call twice.

Called and said that consumers energy would disconnect our power @ 1:30 today because of unpaid bills. The amount owed was $499.74. We pay our bill automatically every month so this was a scam but was well done. I called the number back after an automated system left us a message.

Received a call from Consumers Energy stating that the power would be shut off in 1/2 hour if I didn’t go to Rite Aid and purchase "Money Pak" pre-paid cards and call them back with the # on the back of the pre-paid cards within the 1/2 hour.

I called Consumers Energy and there is no shut off notice and I called Clay Evans (Consumers Scam representative) back and told him I thought it was a scam and he hung up.

Clay has a very foul mouth when he found out we knew it was a scam!!!!!
