Type of a scam Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill
I needed to register a copyright with the Library of Congress Copyright Office and was scammed by a company pretending to represent that office. They made a fraudulent charge to my bank account of $135 in addition to the regular $55 charge for the copyright registration. As you can see from the image, they misrepresented themselves, providing the Library of Congress postal address. I have all the emails I received from them and can provide more information.
Fortunately, I paid with an Amex card and Amex is launching an investigation for fraud. The charge will be cancelled, along with my old card. I only found out by going over my banking charges for tax purposes and contacting the real copyright office to request a receipt. They informed me that third party companies/agencies engage in this type of scam, but there is no information or warning about this on the government website. I asked them to add that.
